Daniel Negreanu has won one of Canada's largest poker events - the British Columbia Open Poker Championships, taking away a payday of USD 371,910 in the process. He outlasted 689 other players over four days at the Main Event of No Limit Texas Hold'em, winning the 2008 BC Poker Championships title and the top prize of USD 371,910 on Sunday November 23, 2008.The fourth annual BC Poker Championships took place over eight days from November 16 - 23, 2008 at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond BC.The BC Poker Championships was a great success; selling out three events, filling 2368 seats and generating a total prize pool of more than USD 2.9 million. Negreanu's win over a 690-player field at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC, near Vancouver was his third major cash in recent months, following a fifth-place finish at the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event in September and a bracelet win in the 2008 WSOP USD 2,000 Limit Hold'em event last June.
Negreanu, a Toronto-area native who now resides in Las Vegas, commented on the enjoyment he received from returning to his native Canada and capturing a significant title. Negreanu was one of several recognizable Canadian and American pros who made the trip to the Rock River for the event. Also participating were Brad "Yukon" Booth, Gavin Smith, Lacey Jones, Mark Napier, Gabe Kaplan, Dennis Phillips, Steve Paul Ambrose, Liz Lieu, Isabelle Mercier, Maria Ho and many others.
