| The field at WSOPE Main Event Day 1B amounted to 203 players, which, together with Day 1A 159, made it to 362 players and a prize pool of GBP 3,620,000.
Day 1B turned out to be a day of many flake-outs. Champion of WSOPE 2007 Annette Obrestad had to leave when Marco Traniello's A-Q caught up to her pocket kings. Just a few hands later, Antonio Esfandiari ran K-J into pocket aces and nothing on the board could help him out. John Tabatabai bounced Allen Cunningham after only an hour of play, and WSOP wonder boy Jeff Madsen busted at the hands of poker legend Doyle Brunson. Other notable eliminations on Day 1B included Gus Hansen, Theo Jorgensen, Shane Schleger, John Phan, Juan Carlos Mortensen and Gavin Smith.
Daniel Negreanu managed to take the chip lead right from the start and later, though the chip counts varied, Negreanu always stayed at or near the top. Eventually best ten chip stacks as Day 1B closed were as follows:
Daniel Negreanu - 154,050 Jamie Rosen - 139,225 David Benefield - 126,775 Sargon Ruya - 114,100 Jean Thorel - 98,675 Marco Traniello - 96,750 Mikael Norinder - 91,650 Yuval Bronshtein - 85,675 Roland de Wolfe - 84,000 Talal Shakerchi - 83,025
