| The attendance of Days 1A and 1B of the WSOPE Main Event last weekend amounted to 362 participants, which is exactly as much as there were at the WSOPE Main Event start in 2007. The event will end up on October 2nd, and the champion will be crowned the same day.
After Day 1A, the top 10 chip stacks were as follows:
1. Smith, Justin (Kissimmee, FL, USA), 158,925 2. Sagstrom, Eric (Gothenburg, Sweden), 98,750 3. Bloch, Andy (Las Vegas, NV, USA), 97,100 4. Montgomery, Scott (Perth, Ont., Canada), 81,650 5. Andy Bloch is a former member of the much spoken MIT Blackjack Team, which was made famous by the recent feature film “21”. Surprisingly enough, Andy hasn’t yet won a WSOP bracelet, but has nearly USD 2 million in poker earnings.
Scott Montgomery and Ivan Demidov are known as members of the WSOP November Nine, who make up the final table of the Main Event, which will resume in November.
Mike Matusow’s lifetime WSOP earnings amount to over USD 3 million. He won his first WSOP bracelet in 1999 in a USD 3,500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament. In 2002 he also won a USD 5,000 buy-in Limit Omaha High-Low tournament for his second bracelet and nearly USD 150,000. His third bracelet was awarded to him in 2008 after he took down the No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball with Rebuys event.
