| Casino Revenue Growth in the US during 2007 |
The American Gaming Association released a survey of casinos revenue and jobs in the industry. Data was collected from state regulatory agencies on 467 commercial casinos in 12 state (not including casinos run by American Indian tribes). According to this survey, US gambling revenues went up 5.3 percent to us $34 billion in 2007. In fact, Americans spent more money on gambling than they did on movies and candy - numbers were taken from the National Confectioners Association and the Motion Picture Association of America, and the survey said Americans spent $29 billion on candy and $9.6 billion on movie tickets in 2007. But the survey says that casino jobs were down 2.3 percent, with casinos in Nevada, New Jersey and Illinois cutting jobs, however. Commercial casinos lost about 8,500 jobs in 2007, and employed fewer than 361,000 workers in 2007 as compared with 369,000 in 2006.
