19 Guayaquil Slot Halls Face Closure
A decision has been recently adopted to change the law and prevent casinos from operating in regenerated zones in Guayaquil. In this connection nineteen slot halls were forced to be closed. Nine casinos located in the same area will also be affected by the measure.
The Tourist Deputy Ministership reported that the slot halls used to operate without records granted for them in order to work thus making their work illegal.
The Ministry confessed it has just recognized the validity of casinos excluding gambling venues that are outside hotels, said Esteban Delgado, Deputy Minister of Tourism. He added they attempted to stop their operation with closures; however such actions have been successfully evaded by constitutional appeals for protection.
Delgado believes the removal of casinos from the regenerated zones is extremely useful, but expects the problem not to pass to the popular sectors in which it might be harmful for the citizens of the country.
Octavio Villacreses, the local legislator consented such a measure was legal and rather useful since there is a need to tidy up the city from all the games of chance. Still he did not approve of the law concerning the fact that it is aimed to establish special zones for this activity.
Casino and Bingo Association in Ecuador (Ascabi) President, Aston Lowndes stated the Association was awaiting the new law to be released and passed.
