Canadian Tribal Province Seek Changes to Canadian Law
For quite a long time the issue of Kahnawake Mohawks right to control gambling operations has been considered by the the Parti Québécois government since it used to be stumbling block of interests over a niche in the billion-dollar online gambling sector, reported  the Montreal Gazette. In 1999 the decision to pass over control over gambling operations was highly anticipated and seemed to be very close. 
Former Kahnawake Grand Chief Joe Norton told at the industry conference that a regulation draft between Quebec and Kahnawake was reluctantly rejected by the province just as the Mohawks were launching Mohawk Internet Technologies (MIT). Since then MIT had been solely operating within the province. Both governments currently agree that only Quebec has jurisdiction over gambling within the province.
However, yesterday Norton and lawyer Morden (Cookie) Lazarus stressed there must be a kind of legislation deployed that would officially legalize gambling as an aboriginal activity with complete compliance with Canadian constitution.
