Global Lottery Proposed for Belgium and France
Former French foreign minister Philippe Douste-Blazy has recently mentioned he planned some global lottery as an innovation in financing for development. When asked about earning money through lotteries, Douste-Blazy said lotteries in Belgium and France would solve lots of social problems. Last November Douste-Blazy reported during a panel discussion on the issue; there he also mentioned global lottery. Inner City Press that interviewed Douste-Blazy was concerned with the question if a lottery was definitely the most appropriate or most innovative way to help the poor. As an alternative, Douste-Blazy also proposed raising funds off airplane tickets. He stated there are three main sites that allow making reservations over the Internet.
