France Seek Possibilities for Open Market Online Gambling
France is still known to undergo considerations over the issue of gambling legalization, reported the Dow Jones business news service. The French Government is concerned with tough control over online gambling.
Prime Minister Francois Fillon's office announced last week it was investigating a report dedicated to the possibilities of the virtual gambling market opening in France. Fillon's office ordered the report in November.
Presently all internet cash gambling activities excluding those operated by national lottery monopoly Francaise Des Jeux and pari-mutuel horse betting monopoly PMU are underthetable. PMU offers online betting and scratch cards.
The decision to consider online gambling legalization was made under the European Commission pressure impelling the French Government to comply with European Union agreements regarding free competition with other member states.
The mentioned report specifies three possible ways of implanting online gambling business into infrastructure of the country, issuing licenses limiting Internet betting to sporting events, including betting on card games or licensing all games except lotteries.
However, the report lacks information on wide-open gaming in France, which also includes citizens’ protection from addictions, and underage gambling, fraud and money laundering, said Dow. He went on to add that legalization of online slot machines is in contradiction with the nation’s objectives of common interest.
